The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, but I wanted to quickly take the time to come on here and give everyone an update… We found a new house! WOOHOO!
We had until this week to either find a home to buy, or decide to just move into a rental. Luckily, the timing works great in the scheme of things. We head to Ireland this week, and then when we come back, we immediately close on our current house, we close on our new home the next day, Ian goes on a golf trip the day after that, and then we move the week after. PHEW!
Needless to say, these next few weeks are going to be insane…and the past few weeks have also been crazy. We are kind of surviving right now, but this is going to be so worth it and it’s wild how everything played out.
This house checks off most of our needs AND wants, which is amazing! The land is just a *tad* bit smaller than what we’d like, BUT I think it is 1) perfect for what we want and need right now and 2) I think that once we actually see the boundaries and get a fence installed, we will realize that we can do so much more with it than we think! And honestly, on our list, we asked for 2+ acres and this is 3 acres, so it is perfect! In my “we are going to be homeless” post, here was the checklist that I added to it –
What we are looking for in a new home:
-Within 25-30 minutes of Kennesaw (Kennesaw, Acworth, Marietta, Canton, Woodstock, Hiram, Powder Springs, etc.)
-2-3+ acres (preferably 5+ but we are flexible depending on the land)
-4+ bedrooms and 3+ baths
-Would LOVE a basement
-Ideally, we would love an open concept house that doesn’t need *too* much updating, but we are also open to comes that needs a little work.
-I’m really trying to avoid homes that have had prior water damage. I’m scared of mold, lol!
The house that we found is:
-20-30 minutes from Kennesaw (depending on the time/day).
-4 bedroom and 4 bathrooms (I technically consider the house to be 4 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom but I will explain that later!).
-Doesn’t need much updating at all. Needs some basic housekeeping stuff like exterior painting, etc. but the inside is updated great! Thankfully, no popcorn ceiling removal needed like we had to do in our current house and the exterior painting, I’m excited about it since our exterior painted brick with this house turned out so amazing.
-We have a FULL unfinished basement. It is HUGE y’all. SO much needed space and potential for us.
-No water damage and our mold panel looks great 🙂
See – everything that we found in this house is EXACTLY what we needed and wanted, which is just so incredibly great. It has 4 porches which is just dreamy. A closed porch, a front porch, an open patio in the back, and a patio off of the basement. We have 2 pieces of land (kind of) – just 2 different sections. 1 side is totally wooded and has a cozy firepit area and the other side (what you see below) has a few trees here and there, but is pretty clear. This side IS pretty sloped, so we will have to figure out what that means in terms of how we will place things (garden, chickens, etc.), but we will figure that out down the road.
I am just SO happy we found this house and incredibly excited to move in! It’s seriously beyond perfect for us.
We have had a *few* hiccups along the way. The entire property is a power easement (LOL), so we had to get a containment letter, which basically means that they will never be able to touch our property and install power lines or equipment. The house came back with extremely high radon (4 is high and ours was between 12-19), so we have to have that mitigated, etc. but overall, it has been a pretty easy process. Our offer was accepted without negotiations (but it WAS a very strong as-is offer, soooo makes sense), and the current owners are so nice.
Now, I am battling severe pollen allergies (I’ve never experienced this before, but it is BAD) and we are packing up and leaving for Ireland! I will update you all more when we get back! In the meantime, don’t forget to follow along on Instagram!
