Over the years, I have been to many spas that have been great and relaxing, but none of them have come close to our experience at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary in Sonoma County, California. Located in Freestone, CA (which is in Sonoma County), Osmosis focuses on encouraging connection, earth-friendly lifestyle, and optimal health.
The grounds of Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary are a treat in itself. Sitting on five acres of property with landscaped Japanese gardens throughout, you really get the opportunity to unwind, relax, and take in all of the calming sounds and the gorgeous nature around you. Osmosis says that they consider communion with nature to be a key component of healing and they encourage their guests to enjoy their landmark Meditation Garden and accompanying rest areas. The recycled driftwood, organic textiles, and non-toxic paints used throughout the building, as well as the environmentally-friendly skin care, water conservation, and waste reduction practices fully embodies the ultimate vision of Osmosis. In fact, “Osmosis has been recognized by the Business Environmental Alliance of Sonoma County with its Best Practices Award. We’re proud of this award, which is shared by all our staff and associates whose hard work and imaginative suggestions contribute to Osmosis being a green spa.”

Our spa package (the Warmth of Love for Two) started with hot tea, comfortable cotton robes, and shoes to wear during our services. We were led to a private garden where we sipped organic tea and enzymes made from 25 different plants. We enjoyed time together, soaked in our surroundings, and chatted with our bath attendant, in order to prepare for the Cedar Enzyme Bath, a service that Osmosis is known for. We had no idea what to expect, but we were so very excited to try it out!

Once we entered the room, our bath attendant told us not to worry – there’s no perfect way of getting into the bath. We stripped out of our robes, hopped in and she covered us up. If you do not know what a Cedar Enzyme Bath is, let me help you out. Osmosis says:
“Rejuvenate in the healing alchemy of the Cedar Enzyme Bath, a therapeutic body treatment from Japan found nowhere else on this continent. This fermentation bathing ritual involves immersing your entire body in a mixture of soft and fragrant ground cedar and rice bran with living enzymes that stimulate metabolic activity inside and out. The warm and fragrant treatment offers myriad health benefits, from improving circulation to relieving joint and muscle pain, and the living enzymes deeply and thoroughly clean your skin, leaving your entire body exuding a radiant glow.”
The finely ground evergreens and rice bran had a really nice scent – almost perfume-like and once we were covered up to our chin, it felt like we were wrapped in a heated, weighted blanket. It was so relaxing. Our amazing attendant gave us cool water to sip on (she held it for us since our hands were under the cedar!) and also put cool, lavender cloths on our forehead, which felt amazingly refreshing.
After about 20 minutes, our time in the bath was unfortunately up. We brushed off outside (it felt so freeing to be naked outside, ha!) and then took showers to get the remaining cedar off of our bodies. Our attendant offered an electrolyte drink and led us to our massages.

I’m not sure if I was so relaxed from the Cedar Enzyme Bath or what, but the massage was the best I have ever had. It is hard to describe how amazing it was – the aromatherapy was so relaxing, the bed was very comfortable, and my masseuse was extremely talented. If I had to rate the massage out of ten stars, I would give it twenty – it was that amazing!

Osmosis really knows its stuff when it comes to a luxury, stress-free, relaxing spa experience in Sonoma County. The overall experience at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary was downright perfect. To be completely honest with you, the experience was so amazing that I would fly from Atlanta to California just to do it again. If you are traveling to Sonoma County, I strongly urge you to make time in your schedule for a visit to Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary – you will not regret it for even one minute.

Ian and I were treated to a complimentary experience at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary, but all opinions are my own. This is truly the best spa experience that I have ever experienced.
