We obviously love Turkey, don’t you think? Two of our three food posts (so far) have all been about Turkey! We eat a lot of ground Turkey not only because it is healthier than ground beef, but it is also inexpensive and you can make a lot of things with it. Burgers, tacos, meat to put on nachos, pasta bakes, meatballs for spaghetti, or even for subs, etc. I could go on for days! We have a regular Turkey burger recipe, but I wanted to share with you the recipe we made tonight! We spruced it up a bit. I will eventually share our regular Turkey burger recipe with you guys, but here is our “Not so average Turkey Burgers” recipe! Hope you enjoy!
Not So Average Turkey Burgers
- 1 lb. Ground Turkey
- 1/2 an Onion
- 1/2 a Yellow Bell Pepper
- 1 small handful of Spinach
- 1/2 tsp. of Cumin
- 2 Cloves of minced Garlic
- Salt and Pepper to taste
The first step is to make sure your Turkey is thawed completely. We buy ground Turkey in bulk from Costco, so we freeze a lot of it. You can also get unfrozen Turkey from any grocery store. After your ground Turkey is thawed, mince half and onion, your spinach, and half a yellow bell pepper. For those that do not know, mincing is a food technique where you finely chop your food. For this recipe, your ingredients do not have to be TOO small, but you don’t want to put large onions in your burgers. You are going to sauté all of these ingredients until the spinach cooks down, and the onions and bell peppers are soft.
When you are done cooking your ingredients, set them aside and let them cool for five minutes. Grab your ground Turkey, and put in your minced garlic, your cumin, salt, pepper, and then mix in the onion mixture when it has cooled! The easiest way to mix all of the ingredients together is by using your hands. Gross, I know.
When everything is mixed in, form your patties! Make sure you put a dimple in the top of each patty to keep them flat which helps with even cooking.
You are now ready to put your Burgers on the grill! We put them on medium high heat with about six minutes on each side. Then, we check the temperature and start flipping more frequently until the temperature inside the burger reaches 165 degrees. When they are almost done, we put our cheese on, and close the lid just until the cheese is melted (about 1-2 minutes) then take them off!
You’re ready to eat! Grab your favorite buns and condiments & you are ready to go. I usually put mayo, ketchup, and have siracha on the side. So perfect!
