I haven’t shared a home update with you all in a while, so I wanted to take this opportunity to share all about Ian’s Man Cave! This little room will transition to a playroom at some point down the road, but for now, it’s all Ian’s. He is in charge of taking care of the plant (that was gifted to me by my friend, Joy!) and keeping up with the tidiness of the room. He does a pretty good job with it, so I wanted to show it to you as-is!
When we first moved into our house, this room was a workout room, then it was switched to an office, and now finally, it is the man cave and I think we are pretty happy with that until we have kids.
For now, he has a couch, his beer table, a coffee table that he made, his plant, a dresser (used as a TV stand hahaha), and of course, his TV and gaming system. That’s really all a man cave needs, right?! During Christmas time, we usually move one of our living room chairs in this room so that we can fit the tree in the living room and it gets super crowded because it’s such a small room, but without the chair, it’s decently roomy.
We probably are not doing much to the room until we have kids, but here is a list of things we are considering:
Change out the floor: So, changing out the floor would obviously only get done if we replace all of our downstairs flooring. I talked in previous posts about how I definitely want to replace our kitchen floor, so I wasn’t sure if we are just going to replace all flooring downstairs to make it the same, or if we were just going to leave most of the downstairs as-is, and just change out the kitchen and bathroom flooring. Who knows!
Paint the dresser: This dresser was gifted to us from Ian’s grandparents, so it is super special, but the color of the dresser doesn’t exactly fit in with our home, so our plan is to paint it a lighter color (probably on off-white color!). We will also probably take the dresser out of this room at some point and put it in our closet, or a guest room.
Mount the TV: I definitely want a TV mounted in this room. Maybe in the corner, if that’s possible. I think it would look better, for sure and also create more room on the floor. We will probably go ahead and get a new TV when this happens because this one is pretty old. I think this will improve Ian’s Man Cave now and also improve the room once it is a playroom, as well.
Install plantation shutters: This has been on my list for a while now – we really want plantation shutters all throughout our home! I think they look nicer and are easier to clean, so it will eventually happen, for sure.
Install a new fan: We actually have a new fan already in our home (put away in the closet), but we need to install it AND we also need to purchase and install new fans for the living room, both guest rooms, and the master bed.
Upgrade lighting: We don’t need to do anything too crazy to the lighting, but we would love to add a dimming feature! We want to do this all throughout the house, which you can see based on our other home posts.
Install window films: Since this room has six windows on the North and East sides of the home, we have really been considering adding window films to our home and especially this room. It gets extremely hot in the summer because of the windows and window films would help us block out those harmful UV rays, reduce hot spots in the room, and they would also help us save on our electric bill (which was over $200 this month!!!!). There is a company in the Metro-Atlanta area that provides window tinting services called UHS Window Tinting and Blinds, which has many years of service (over 30 years!). Based out of Alpharetta, Georgia, UHS Window Tinting and Blinds has awesome reviews and they are also a locally-owned and operated company, which is really important to me because I love supporting small businesses in my area!
Well, that’s everything that we are thinking about doing to Ian’s Man Cave (before it is transitioned into a playroom!). I hope you liked this post and hopefully can take Ian’s man cave and use it to your advantage for your own cave!
