When I talked about visiting Sonoma County with my friends, or even with strangers, everyone raved about The Girl & The Fig. It is definitely a fan favorite amongst Sonoma County locals and visitors; rightfully so, too. The Girl & The Fig is described as “Country food with a French passion,” which I love. If I had to personally describe my favorite type of food, this would definitely be it. Their website says, “We are blessed to live & work in a beautiful place, with fertile land, and talented producers. We know where most of our food products are coming from, and many of these ingredients are actually farmed by our own staff.” With ratings of 4.4 on Google, 4.5 on TripAdvisor, and 4.6 on Facebook, as well as urges to go from family and friends, I felt very lucky when I snagged a Monday reservation while we were visiting Guerneville.
We were led to the cutest outdoor patio, which was adorned with bistro lights, funky artwork, and gorgeous flowers. Our server greeted us with the biggest smile, a cocktail menu, and a regular menu.
We ordered the Cheese & mano formate (hand formed) cured meats, fig and arugula salad, wild flounder meunière, lamb loin, lavender creme brulee, and the profiteroles. For drinks, we had the white wine varietal flight, the blackberry fizz, and the Sonoma mule. Everything was beyond amazing. Most of the meats were house made, and/or local products, most of the cheese was local, everything was so fresh and unique, and the drinks were very refreshing on a warm night. Here are our thoughts on each dish:
Cheese & mano formate cured meats: We love a good cheese and charcuterie board and this was a really good one! Olives, cheese, honey, mustard, almonds, figs, and more topped the plate.
Fig and arugula salad:I love, love, love arugula and the sweetness of the fig really made the salad. It was fresh, light, and refreshing.
Wild flounder meunière: Funny story: Ian and I planned on sharing entrees. We asked our waitress to order everything for us and we were really pleasantly surprised when she brought the flounder and lamb to our table. The second I took a bite of this flounder dish, I knew that I could not share. While it is not a healthy dish at all and is practically covered in butter, it was phenomenal. So, so good. I stole it from Ian and kept it to myself. 😉
Lamb loin: This dish has a smoked pea sformato, a carrot puree and a lamb reduction paired with the very tender meat. It was so good! I took a bite of it and loved it, but I did let Ian eat the rest since I stole the other dish. He really enjoyed it!
Lavender creme brulee: I have another story for you! Ever since I can remember, I have had a favorite creme brulee: the vanilla bean creme brulee from The Lobster Bar in Atlanta, GA. I have been searching for a creme brulee that competes with this one for the longest time and I have always left disappointed…until this Lavender Creme Brulee. You guys, I think this was my favorite dish in all of Sonoma County. It was amazing and I do not say that lightly! I take creme brulee very seriously (ha!), and this was hands down perfect.
Profiteroles: Oooh, la la this was good! I only had one bite because I was too enamored with my creme brulee, but Ian ate every single bite of this and smiled as he was doing so. It was really, really good.
White wine varietal flight: This tasty wine flight was served in really cute glasses, which I loved. More importantly, all of the wine was really, really good. Highly recommend ordering this!
blackberry fizz: This drink made with vodka, st-germain, blackberry shrub, and sparkling wine was extremely pretty and really good.
Sonoma mule: I ordered the Sonoma mule because it seemed right up my alley! Made with green tea-infused vodka, it sounded so refreshing, and it definitely was. Really interesting cocktail!
I was very, very impressed by the food + drinks, the location, and the customer service at The Girl & The Fig. It is a must-visit when you are traveling to Sonoma County, even if you are staying an hour or more away. I am counting the days until I can go back!
I was hosted by The Girl & The Fig and Sonoma County during my time visiting, but all opinions are my own. The Girl & The Fig’s ratings and reviews speak for themselves – they really are that amazing!
