This post was created in partnership with Espree® Oral Care Gel. I received complimentary products and compensation to facilitate my review, but all opinions within are my own. Keep reading to find out 6 ways to show your dog love!
Before we adopted Payton and Dakota, I never really understood that you could have such a strong bond with a dog. I loved animals, especially dogs, of course, but the beauty of seeing a dog form its own personality and love for you is unlike anything else.
Because of my love for the girls (aka. my 2 dogs), they are everything to me. I truly treat them like they are real babies, so you can definitely say they are spoiled and you know what? That’s okay with me! Dog’s lifespans are so short and I want to do every single thing that I can do, in order to make sure that we make the most of it. They deserve it.
Think about it – we only have about 12 years, give or take some, with our dogs. That’s why I want to make sure that I am not only doing everything I possibly can do to keep them healthy and strong (which will hopefully extend their lives), but I am also making sure that I keep them as happy as I can. They really are my babies and I want to show them that I love them.
While there are many ways to show your dog love, I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite ways today. Below, you will find 6 ways to show your dog love. I make sure to show Payton and Dakota love by doing all of these things and I know they love and appreciate me for it!
Speaking of personalities, Payton is extremely hyper and Dakota is more laid back, so their play times look a bit different. Dakota loves to roll around on the floor, play with balls, and spend lots of time playing with Ian and I. Payton, on the other hand, is pretty independent. She loves to go outside and run around until her legs are sore. I know that Payton is happiest when she is outside chasing birds and other animals and Dakota is happiest when inside, playing ball with us.
We have a ton of dog hair in our house. Dakota is a lab mix (maybe with Husky in her?!) and Payton is a Jack Russell mix, so they both shed a lot. If I don’t vacuum every single day, it looks like a hair bomb went off everywhere. It is crazy! One thing that helps a lot with the shedding is brushing. Luckily, my girls love being brushed and it seems to make them really happy every single time I bring it out. Usually, Dakota will start jumping because she is so happy to get brushed. We love using the Furminator, but I have heard great things about using a grooming ninja and I will probably try it soon.
When we first picked up Payton and Dakota, we were two (very) broke college kids. I’m not sure why we thought getting dogs would be a good idea, but I’m so thankful that we got them anyway. One thing that we struggled with at the very beginning is getting healthy dog food for them. There are many different dog food products out there that cater to those that do not want to spend a lot of money on dog food, but saving a few bucks is not doing your dog any good at all. I believe that for dogs to truly live healthy, full lives, spending the extra money on a good, healthy dog food brand is 100% worth it. And, my dogs seem to love the premium dog food more anyway, so it is a win-win!
Fun Toys + Treats
We fill our home with dog treats and toys, in order to keep the girls happy. One of Payton and Dakota’s favorite treats is bone marrow. We pick them up at Kroger and keep them frozen until we give them to the dogs. They absolutely love them, they keep the girls busy for about 2+ hours at a time, and they are much healthier than a lot of other treats. In addition to dog treats, we have a huge bin filled with toys for the dogs. Of course, the toys end up scattered around the house by the end of each day, but it makes me so happy to know that the dogs are having fun with them. Filling your home with toys and treats is one of the best ways to show your dog love.
Tooth care is a huge deal in our home. While Dakota has great teeth (especially for her age), we struggle with built-up tartar, plaque, and bad bread with Payton, even when we get regular dental cleanings.
According to my vet, sometimes some breeds, or specific dogs just struggle more with dental issues than others and Payton is definitely one of those pups that has a hard time. Unfortunately, bad breath is more than just bad breath. A lot of the time, it can point to a more serious health issue, which can impact the overall health and well-being of your pet. This is why we put so much focus on the oral care of our pups.
Recently, we found Espree Natural Oral Care Gel and have been trying it out with Payton. Brushing is not required (although, it can speed up the improvement), so it makes pet dental care super easy. We use the peppermint flavor, which includes the natural blend of peppermint oil, grapefruit seed extract, grape seed extract, thyme oil, and neem oil, which all help freshen bad breath and supports healthy gums – so far, she seems to love it! Espree Natural Oral Care gels and sprays have been proven to remove plaque and tartar within 14-30 days, leading to reduced bad breath and improved overall oral health. If your pup(s) struggles with brushing like ours, Espree Natural Oral Care could be a great product to try because of the ease, the natural formula, and the effectiveness!
Lots of Cuddles
Last but not least, in order to show your dog love, I recommend giving them lots of cuddles. We love to curl up on the couch and cuddle while watching TV in the evenings. It really is the best part of each day for me!
